Smoker Term Life Insurance

Reader’s Question:

Can someone still be considered for life insurance policy in Wisconsin if he/she is a smoker and asthmatic at the same time?

Fredrick

Green Bay, WI

Someone may be considered for life insurance policy but the rate may be so expensive. Aside from having a smoker’s rate, which is thrice the amount of the standard premium or a non-smoker’s rate, there will also be an additional charge to their life insurance policy because they are asthmatic. If you are asthmatic, it would be beneficial to your health if you pay a visit to your doctor to monitor your asthma, at least two times in a year. This will also show the life insurance company that you condition is under control. There is a list of goals of asthma treatment that the National Institutes of Health set. You can use this during your medication. It would be best to postpone your life insurance application until you can show the life insurance company in Wisconsin that you meet these goals.

As for your smoking habits, you should consider quitting to improve your health further rather worsening your asthma condition. Remember that even if you do not have asthma, your life insurance premium can still be very expensive since a smoker’s rate is three time that of a non-smoker’s rate.
