My mother says that my smoking will affect my life insurance. Is this true?

Hi James. Say hi to your mother in Norman, Oklahoma for me. Sorry, James, but I will have to take your mother’s side on this one. Whether or not you smoke will affect your life insurance in terms of the premiums you pay and the coverage you get.

Most insurance companies will have more affordable premiums for non smoker life insurance while charging higher premiums for smokers life insurance. While you may question this practice of penalizing smokers, it does make sense in that insurance take risks in insuring a person and smokers are statistically more likely to die earlier than a non-smoker.

You need not worry, though. With the dawn of the internet age, you can now find online insurance quotes. Look specifically for insurance companies that specialize in smokers insurance. There are also some insurance companies out there that have a no exam life insurance which offers term life insurance without checking on your physical health. You may want to look into this, as well. So whether you smoke or not, it is not an excuse not to get life insurance. On the contrary, it is even more reason to ensure that you get the peace of mind that only life insurance coverage can give you.
